VESSEL
His heart beat
So that mine could too –
Flesh and blood and beauty
Throbbing through his vessels
a savage love, a holy love…
His bones drew breath –
breath of dust and man and glory and God:
Inhalation of a glory greater than
All the Lily-laden fields
of the grassy earth
And bird-dotted skies…
I inhale dust, I exhale life –
Life from the God whose heart beat
So that mine could too –
Flesh and blood and beauty
Throbbing through
the souls-of-the-ages
grown ageless again.
